It's always amazing to me how people's eyes light up when I tell them I'm going to Newfoundland.
Yesterday I went to the cellphone store to discuss getting a cell phone plan. After our chat I explained to the young woman I was heading out to Newfoundland. Her eyes lit up and she started telling me about her grandmother living there! She showed me the place grandma's from on the map, and rambled on and on with stories and memories of our most eastern province.
Once the cellphone rep learned that I was going to Newfoundland the whole mood in the room changed. This little 'meat robot' who is going through the motions of her job turned into a giggly little human.
On the other side of the coin I hear a lot of, "So you're going to Newfoundland, here's what you want to do!" They go on to tell me every little detail of what I must do for a successful trip. One fella told me I must buy a $70,000 Mercedes Benz motor home. I replied, "I don't want one of those." He ignored my comment and kept telling me how good these mobile homes are. I said, "But I don't want one of those." Didn't matter to him, I was buying a Mercedes-Benz motor home and that's all there was to it!
In cases like that it usually turns out that the person is describing what they want to do, but insisting I must do it their way. And they give me the evil eye if I don't comply.
So you're going to Newfoundland eh...here's what you want. Har!
